Arsenal continue their pre-season programme against Real Betis in Dublin, with Mikel Arteta’s side looking to build on an encouraging start to the summer. The Gunners possess the stronger squad on paper and were sharp in their recent win over Girona, but this is not a straightforward betting fixture. Betis have already played five warm-up matches and should be further ahead physically. That difference in preparation is the main reason I am reluctant to treat Arsenal as an automatic banker. However, their attacking depth and ability to improve the side through substitutions still make the English club the more likely winners.

Arsenal Form and Team News

Arsenal have started pre-season with two convincing victories. They first beat MK Dons 3-0 behind closed doors before recording a 4-1 success away to Girona. The performance in Spain offered several encouraging signs. Arsenal played with purpose in possession, recovered the ball aggressively and created chances through a mixture of experienced forwards and younger players. Kai Havertz opened the scoring, summer signing Christos Tzolis added the second, and Max Dowman and Gabriel Jesus struck after the interval. What stood out to me was the number of different attacking combinations available to Arteta. He used 24 players and finished the match with ten outfielders who had represented Arsenal at academy level. That level of rotation makes the final score less important, but it also illustrates why Arsenal may have an advantage late in this match. Some players are still being managed carefully following the World Cup. Havertz, Viktor Gyökeres and Piero Hincapié were all given limited minutes against Girona, while Jurrien Timber has continued his rehabilitation away from the main group. Arteta is therefore unlikely to field anything resembling his strongest XI for the full 90 minutes.

Real Betis Form and Team News

Real Betis are much further into their preparations. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have played five friendlies, winning four and losing one. Their results include victories over Sportfreunde Lotte, Recreativo de Huelva, Lyon and Almería. The only setback was a narrow 1-0 defeat against Granada. Betis have scored nine times across those matches and conceded only once, keeping four clean sheets. I would not read too much into the quality of every opponent, but the defensive consistency is meaningful. Betis already look comfortable operating as a compact unit, and their players should be better accustomed to the physical demands of match action. Their latest outing ended in a 1-0 win over Almería, with Iván Corralejo scoring after Pablo García won possession and supplied the assist. Isco also made his first appearance of the summer from the bench, giving Pellegrini another technical option between the lines. The Spaniards do have availability concerns. Aitor Ruibal, Diego Conde and Abde Ezzalzouli have been listed among the absentees, while Diego Llorente experienced muscular fatigue against Almería. Former Arsenal defender Héctor Bellerín could feature against his old club.

Key Factors Behind the Prediction

Arsenal’s attacking options

Even without several established starters playing a full match, Arsenal can select from Havertz, Gyökeres, Jesus, Tzolis, Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri. That gives Arteta different types of movement and finishing ability. In a friendly with extensive second-half substitutions, squad depth often matters more than the quality of the starting XI. Arsenal should be able to introduce players capable of changing the tempo rather than merely preserving it.

Betis have the fitness advantage

This will be Betis’ sixth friendly and only Arsenal’s third summer fixture. Pellegrini’s players should therefore be closer to competitive condition, particularly during the opening hour. That makes the draw a genuine possibility and explains why I prefer Arsenal in the draw-no-bet market as the lower-risk selection.

Betis have been difficult to break down

One goal conceded across five friendlies is a strong defensive return, even allowing for the standard of the opposition. Betis have generally protected central areas well and forced opponents into lower-quality attacks. Arsenal represent a considerable step up, but the Spanish side’s organisation makes a comfortable Gunners victory less certain than the headline prices might suggest.

Arsenal may become stronger after the changes

The match could be decided in the final half-hour. Arteta was able to make wholesale changes against Girona without losing control of the contest, and Arsenal’s younger players brought energy rather than simply seeing out the result. Betis are well prepared, but their sixth match of the summer may produce some tiredness once both managers begin changing their line-ups.

The price is more appealing with draw protection

Arsenal are clear favourites in the match-winner market. Nevertheless, friendlies are volatile: substitutions disrupt structure, managers experiment tactically and the result is rarely the sole priority. Backing Arsenal with the draw removed provides a more sensible balance between the teams’ underlying quality and the uncertainty created by Betis’ superior match fitness.

Real Betis 1-0 Almería

The figures highlight the central conflict in this match. Arsenal have displayed much greater scoring power, averaging three and a half goals across their two outings. Betis, meanwhile, have produced the more established body of work and have already kept four clean sheets. My interpretation is that Arsenal have the higher ceiling, while Betis have the more reliable current structure. That combination points towards an Arsenal-leaning contest without making the outright favourite completely secure.
