That is why I would not automatically push Wigan’s handicap too far. Trinity are capable of making ground and creating opportunities even against strong opposition.
Wigan have scored 689 points compared with Wakefield’s 625, while their recent defensive figures are considerably better. For me, efficiency and control of the match are the main differences between the two sides.
The 2026 head-to-head record favours Wigan, but there is a warning
Wigan have already beaten Wakefield twice this season. Their league meeting in June finished 48-10, a result that clearly supports a sizeable Warriors handicap. However, the Challenge Cup quarter-final played in April was much closer, with Wigan winning by only 26-22.

The statistics for both sides show something that, in my view, the odds do not fully reflect: Wakefield are not that far behind Wigan in their ability to make ground. Trinity have the advantage in average gain, total metres and clean breaks. Wigan’s edge is that their production has translated into more points and, above all, a reliable defence. That makes me lean towards a Warriors victory.
